Also, would you say the icaros differ much between shamans? If they come from the plant, are they similar or even the same for all? Or does the relationship between shaman and plant determine the variation of the icaro? A personal touch? Ayahuasca singing the same song to all? I find this all fascinating!

How wonderful to again hear Don Robertos voice and his icaros still go straight into my body. And how wonderful also to realize he continues to sing Dona Marias icaros in ceremony still, one of the more intense during my first ceremony. I will be sure to get a copy of your book, it will take me back to the jungle and to Spirit Quest. I am working with plants now here in Sweden, slowly learning and listening! May many read and learn from this!

Hey my brothers and sisters,
I was wondering if the icaro's of these two great shamans are somewhere for sale in a higher quality? I just love to learn more about Dona Maria's icaro's.

my all time favourite from Dona Maria L. T. Flores is medicina medicina ..... esta noche esta nocheee, i love this icaro even my wife and my son sing it ! I am still shocked about the fact that she fell victim of evil sorcery, as I read your article some time ago I asked myself, how could this possibly be, why did nothing protect her, where was her master and so on and so on. Such a pity , but then I believe now she resides in one of the heavens may be trying to help from there in another way!

Interesting that you would note sorcery, wondering though as naive traveller, how would i know the difference, for doing a ceremony w/ Ayahuasca. Like what if it ends up being with one of those vengeful types you speak of? I have also experienced in a trusting circle seeing mother Mary. I saw glimpses of the saint with a royal blue cape that had stars.

QuantumLife, send me a comment with your email address. I will not publish the comment, but I will know how to get in touch with you.

I really appreciate your comment about the inevitable disappointment that follows idealizing shamanic practitioners — confusing spirit with soul.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your continuing elucidation of the paradoxical nature of the art of Curanderismo. The notion of Curanderos and Curanderas as "enlightened" beings persists in Western minds, and leads to much disappointment and the projections which inevitably arise when pedestals are dismantled.

I am currently producing a documentary for Australian ABC Radio National on Icaros, and would like some more source material from women. Do you own the copyright [ludicrous notion I realise, but such are the ways of corporate media] for those recordings, and would you be interested in sharing them if so?

Listening to the first healing song I recognize one icaro of Sr. Jacques Mabit from the Takiwasi Centre. His song is a little bit slower but same in the melody and positive appearence. Love it!
