I loved that story, thanks so much for sharing! The ritual of the shaman and prayers all night I think played a crucial role. Never underestimate the power of the yoni~ :)

thank you Steve. i wrote a response last night, but i think it glitched up and didn't send. i was a little shy about telling this story, as i am sure you can understand. i was concerned about the authenticity of what happened myself, and discussed the details very carefully with my sister. amazing indeed. and amazing it is to step outside our conceptual blinders to glimpse just how much magic and mystery there is in life. it is just this magic that has compelled me to make many trips to the Amazon.

i live in Oregon with my wife, kids, and extended family on a farm west of Portland, Oregon. i was born in the foothills of the Wallowa Mountains; Chief Joseph and Nez Perce Indian country. but it took the Vine of the Soul (Vine of the Dead) to reawaken the singing shaman within me. i know you understand.

we have a mutual friend in Fred Smith.
Best Wishes,
David

What a wonderful story — and a snakebite remedy I have not heard of before. :-) Thank you for telling it. I would love to hear more stories, and to learn more about your Amazon experiences.

Hi Steve,
here's a story for you and your readers about snake bites, magic, and the Amazon. first time ever told to the gringo world...but true it is. my sister, Jan, was attending an ayahuasca retreat with Howard Lawler and our dear shaman friend Don Rober out of Iquitos (my own wonderful initiator into the Medicine).

Don Rober was out in the tall grass collecting some kind of medicinal herb when, on reaching down, he was suddenly bit on the chin by a snake. he immediately whacked it to death with his machete, grabbed it and came up to the lodge. he informed some folks about the bite and layed down in his room. it was a Coral Snake that had bitten him. he started weak and woozy.

as his symptoms grew worse, Don Rober instructed one of the staff to fetch the Yagua chief who lived nearby, hoping that he might know of a special remedy for this kind of bite. the chief shows up and says yes, there is a remedy. the wound needs to be rubbed with the moist juices of a woman's vagina. the women looked around embarrassed for a moment, when suddenly my sister reached her fingers down into her wet yoni, pulled them up and proceeded to massage Don Rober's chin with her holy juices. a little while passed. Don Rober fell into a deep peaceful sleep.

he woke up about 5 hours later chipper as a bird. that night the shaman led a wonderful Ayahuasca ceremony, singing his icaros for a good five hours; and conducting healings on numerous individuals late into the night.

it happened just as i've told you. is there another place on earth that such a thing could transpire?
best wishes,
david fields
