I have written before about Dr. Rick Strassman and his book, DMT: The Spirit Molecule. Now the book is being made into a movie, produced and directed by Mitch Schultz, who has previously worked with the Ghost Robot and Synthetic Pictures production companies. The documentary will include interviews with all of the DMT and ayahuasca heavy hitters — anthropologist Marlene Dobkin de Ríos, visionary artist Alex Grey, psychiatrist Charles Grob, psychiatrist Stanislav Grof, author Graham Hancock, anthropologist Luis Eduardo Luna, ethnopharmacologist Dennis McKenna, poet Dale Pendell, cognitive psychologist Benny Shanon, and many more, including, of course, Rick Strassman, who is also the coproducer.

Here is the blurb for the movie:

The Spirit Molecule weaves an account of Dr. Rick Strassman’s groundbreaking DMT research through a multifaceted approach to this intriguing hallucinogen found in the human brain and hundreds of plants. Utilizing interviews with a variety of experts to explain their thoughts and experiences with DMT within their respective fields, and discussions with Strassman’s research volunteers brings to life the awesome effects of this compound, and far-reaching theories regarding its role in human consciousness and evolution.

Several themes explored include possible roles for endogenous DMT; its theoretical role in near-death and birth experiences, alien-abduction experiences; and the uncanny similarities in Biblical prophetic texts describing DMT-like experiences. Our expert contributors offer a comprehensive collection of information, opinions, and speculation about indigenous use of DMT, the history and future of psychedelic research, and current DMT research. All this, to help us understand the nature of the DMT experience, and its role in human society and evolution.

I will let you know when I learn anything more.

    Hello Steve,
I am a directly involved with 3D Stereo film production. I contacted Rick who provided me with a contact for Mitch. For the best visual perspective in regards to the DMT film documentary, we are in a position to help make the “Trip” a very worthy and compelling “Journey”. I invite you to stop by and post on our 3D film site.
    Cheers,

This is the first I’ve heard of Strassman’s excellent book being the basis for a documentary film on DMT.

    Wow! Awesome.

I found your blog after you linked to my interview with Rod Mann from the Entheogen film. You have a lot of great stuff on here! Thanks for putting it out there for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you for your very kind words. I dropped over to your exciting blog, and I will be going back to browse around some more as soon as I finish writing this. And there is a lot of synchronicity here: I just finished writing a post about lucid dreaming, which I will upload in the next day or so. I would be really interested in what you have to say about it.
